Take a weekend away and join us for a day bicycling around Lake Tahoe! This event is so fun and challenging you’re in for an amazing adventure!
This is a clockwise-loop training ride circling gorgeous Lake Tahoe and it's designed especially for AIDS/LifeCycle participants and their friends. Bicycling does not get more beautiful than this. The setting for this ultimate bike trip is spectacular with incredible vista views of the lake among tall, pine forests. Plan to spend between four and eight hours on this route, depending on your conditioning. Elevations go up to 6,800 feet. While all are welcome, the length of the trip combined with the many elevation differences makes this a route recommended for well-conditioned riders. Message Jamie if you have questions.
While we’re cycling only the 10th, you should arrive at the Lake Tahoe north shore at the Tahoe Biltmore by Friday, May 9th. Check-in starts at 3pm. Some will want to meet for dinner or a drink that evening. The Biltmore boasts newly remodeled rooms, a decent casino, and it’s a stone’s throw from a walk on the beach. Call 1-800-BILTMORE for reservations. Use discount code: “AIDS/LifeCycle" Room Block to get our group rate. (See details below.)
We’ll meet at 8:30am Saturday morning (May 10th) and begin our day with some stretches, instructions, route details, and a specially designed speech on safety. That should get us out of there by 9:15am. You can ride at your own pace. We’ll stop for lunch at Heidi's Family Restaurant in South Shore (see www.heidisfamilyrestaurants.com, as well as make some restroom stops along the route. Hit the Jacuzzi when you get back, or you can make an appointment for massage services. Spend Saturday night there and check out by noon Sunday morning. You can do more riding Sunday if you’d like, but it won’t necessarily be TRL supported.
Rooms must be booked before May 1 to get the group rate but it could fill before then so don’t wait. You can share rooms to keep costs down, but the hotel might charge an extra $10 a night if you have more than two in a room. See www.tahoebiltmore.com for details and directions. I'm not sure it matters, but if you are bothered by smoke, request a non-smoking room.
Bikes can be stored in your rooms, but if you need to do maintenance on them, you must provide a tarp or risk a cleaning fee.
This will be a blast. Bring your camera. You’ll meet new, fun people too. Carpool if you can and come on up for a wonderful weekend under the trees. Invite your friends to come along, add them to the Event. If you know someone that might like to sweep, that'd be awesome. All ALC cycling rules apply, and please RSVP from the usual ALC Ride Calendar.
